Go Beyond the Ordinary in the new Chevrolet Trailblazer

  • New Trailblazer refreshed with new technical and aesthetic features
  • New body color and a plusher interior
  • Quieter passenger compartment underlines upmarket appeal

BANGKOK, THAILAND – Chevrolet Sales Thailand today launched its new Trailblazer, refreshed with upgraded design elements and technological amenities. The new full-size PPV retains its proven powertrain, seven-seat spaciousness and multi-functionality with the addition of a new body color, enhanced soundproofing and a more luxurious interior.

Una Tan, Marketing Director of Chevrolet Sales Thailand said, “The Trailblazer is a very capable vehicle on and off the road – that is a fact. It is completely at home and equally refined traversing rough jungle trails or cruising expressways.”

“Adding elements to an already successful package takes the Trailblazer beyond its traditional positioning to a more urban target audience, hence our campaign tagline ‘Inspiration to Go Beyond.’ We hope owners are inspired by the Trailblazer’s capability, driving dynamics and refinement to go beyond their usual destinations,” Tan added.

Muscular exterior with new color

On the exterior, the new Trailblazer’s muscular exterior lines get a new color called “Satin Steel Gray.” On the back, LED tail lamps are now standard on the LTZ and LTZ1 variant for better visibility to other motorists particularly in low visibility conditions.

Trailblazer’s rear hatch is now equipped with a rear view camera that activates when reverse gear is engaged. The area behind the vehicle is shown on the on-board touch-screen color display with dynamic guidelines that show the vehicle’s potential coverage area. The projected coverage area changes its orientation according to steering inputs.

In terms of overall space, Trailblazer continues to offer a longer wheelbase than its competitors. It also continues to offer more interior space, while its intuitive three-row tumble and fold-flat seating adds convenience and flexibility. Trailblazer’s theatre-style seating allows second- and third-row occupants a better all-round view.

More luxurious and comfortable interior

Trailblazer seats are now available finished in new premium-grade leather in luscious “Brown Stone” color, complemented by glossy “Piano Black” trim on the dashboard, center console and steering wheel. Occupants will also find the interior quieter, thanks to additional sound insulation in the bulkhead, further isolating the engine and passenger compartments.

The driver’s seat features electrical six-way adjustment, while all passengers stay cool with Trailblazer’s powerful air-conditioning system, available even to third-row passengers.

Driver information includes an Eco Index display that provides real-time feedback about fuel efficiency and a statistic page showing average fuel consumption of the last 50 kilometers. Based on throttle inputs, a leaf is shown when the driver drives economically.

MyLink infotainment system

Chevrolet's award-winning MyLink infotainment system is available in all trims for Trailblazer. The top-of-the-range Trailblazer LTZ1 is equipped with six speakers, a touch-screen and built-in satellite navigation. The system can display album art, videos, pictures and DVD playback. The LTZ variant will have a BYOM radio featuring smartphone connectivity, pictures, videos and streaming audio. Once connected, options such as Audio, Pictures and Movies, Telephone, Smartphone Link and Settings are projected onto the Trailblazer's touch screen. Users can access personal playlists and make hands-free voice calls, amongst other functions.

Most powerful and torquey in class

Powering the new Trailblazer is the proven second-generation Duramax four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The 2.8L variant features 147 kW (200 hp) of power at 3600 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, making the Trailblazer the most powerful and torquey in its class. The engine improves the Trailblazer's acceleration and straight-line performance, as well as the vehicle's towing and payload capacity. Output for the 2.5L variant is 120 kW (163 hp) at 3600 rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm.

The engine’s control module – its brains – features GM-developed software for quicker response and added accuracy to keep the engine operating at peak output and efficiency under any given conditions. Both the 2.8- and 2.5-liter variants are Euro-4 compliant and can be upgraded to meet Euro-5 and US emission standards.

Variants with transmission get a six-speed gearbox, featuring ratios that take advantage of the Duramax's characteristics and provide Trailblazer with the best performance and fuel economy. The Trailblazer is the first PPV in its segment to offer a six-speed (manual and automatic) transmission.

The new Trailblazer rides on four coil springs and a 5 links rear suspension system – a setup found only in more upmarket, premium PPV. This setup helps eliminate the bouncy and choppy ride character typical of conventional body-on-frame PPV and provides best-in-class ride and crisp handling. A coil spring setup also provides greater suspension articulation in off-road conditions and makes it more comfortable on bumpy roads. The Trailblazer is the first PPV in its segment to offer disc brakes on all four wheels.

Safety system

In terms of active and passive safety, the new Trailblazer features new pre-tensioners for lap-belts and two airbags in front, in addition to other features including Traction Control System (TCS), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and Panic Brake Assist (PBA), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA).

Low running costs

Trailblazer also has lower running costs, as service intervals are pegged at every 15,000 kilometers, as opposed to the standard 10,000 kilometers of other models.

Inspiration to Go Beyond

For the new Trailblazer, Chevrolet also launched a completely new marketing campaign including a new television commercial that highlights the vehicle’s “trailblazing” qualities – in and out of the city.

Titled “Inspiration to Go Beyond,” the campaign highlights Trailblazer’s performance and product efficacy that has the power to do it all, enabling owners to explore new territories. The spirit of the campaign is embodied by two key opinion leaders: Dr. Phuchit Phuripanik, Professor at Suan Dusit Rajabhat University and philanthropist, as well as Vitidnan Rojanapanich, the first Thai to reach the summits of seven mountains around the globe.

Phuripanik, who is also a member of the Spirit of Trailblazer Club in Thailand, said during the launch, “It is important to give back to our nation and community. It is an important part of my life to go beyond the ordinary and fulfil this. Trailblazer helps me to fulfil my dream and inspiration.”

Rojanapanich, who has scaled the tallest mountain in the world, said, “Life is an opportunity to learn and reach my full potential. It’s a chance to go further and see something I haven’t seen before. When I reach the top of a mountain I was most happy. I dedicate my efforts to our King. When you dedicate your efforts to others it gives you more happiness than when you just do it for yourself.”

The new Trailblazer is available in four trims at the following prices:

  • 2.5L 2WD MT LT: THB 1,095,000
  • 2.8L 2WD AT LT: THB 1,129,000
  • 2.8L 2WD AT LTZ: THB 1,289,000
  • 2.8L 4WD AT LTZ1: THB 1,465,000

In conjunction with the official launch at Central World on February 14 – 15, 2015, Chevrolet has introduced a promotion where customers to buy Trailblazer of any trim will get a THB 5,000 voucher for special accessories. The promotion is also available at all Chevrolet dealerships nationwide on the same dates.
