Drivers Onboard: Chevrolet’s Tips for a Golf Getaway

Chevrolet Trailblazer offers ample room for golfers and their gear. Its rear cargo area has a special indent at the side to allow a full-size golf bag to be stored flat and horizontally, freeing up space for other items.

BANGKOK, THAILAND – With its year-round warm climate, famously friendly caddies, and world-class courses and events, like this week’s golf tournament in Chon Buri, Thailand attracts hundreds of thousands of domestic and international golf enthusiasts annually.

Now that cooler “winter” weather has arrived, there is no better time for a “foursome” weekend golf getaway. Get the most out of your weekend on the links with these four Chevrolet tips:

Drive the right-sized vehicle

You don’t need to be the next Thongchai Jaidee to know that some vehicles are better than others for transporting golfers and their gear to weekend destinations. When it comes to packing luggage and golf bags without encroaching on passenger space, only a full-size SUV is up to par.

For example, Chevrolet Trailblazer’s rear cargo area offers a special indent at the side to allow a full-size golf bag to be stored flat and horizontally, freeing up space for other items. Trailblazer has as many as 32 storage compartments, making it easier to pack extra golf balls, golf magazines and sports drinks.

“Interior roominess and seating comfort are two of the top five purchase considerations for full-size SUV shoppers,” said Una Tan, Chevrolet’s Marketing Director in Thailand, citing the brand’s recent consumer research. “In fact, owners of full-size SUVs are nearly twice as likely to carry luggage or sports equipment at least once a week compared to owners of midsize cars, and nearly three times more likely to do so than small car owners.”

Chevrolet Designer Dagoberto Tribia added: “We designed the rear cargo area of the Trailblazer to maximize functionality and flexibility. The ability to fit a golf bag in the cargo area was a high priority for the Thai market, and the design was done specifically to please its customers.”

Find a new course without getting lost

With more than 200 courses nationwide, golfers in Thailand have plenty of options, and finding them is easy using Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system with built-in satellite navigation, available on Trailblazer, Colorado and Sonic. Always use turn-by-turn navigation when driving to a new golfing destination to ensure that you don’t get lost and lose valuable playing time.

Improve your game before you get on the green

Golf getaways often require at least a couple hours of drive time. If you’re a rear seat passenger, there is no better time to watch golf instructional DVDs than when you’re about to go golfing. The new Trailblazer with Urban Package, recently unveiled at the Thailand International Motor Expo, includes rear seat entertainment system with flip-down, ceiling-mounted monitor and a DVD player in the center console. This is in addition to other amenities including auxiliary power outlets and USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

Drive a diesel to your destination

Golf courses are often located in hilly terrain. When climbing hills under a heavy load of luggage, golf bags and multiple passengers, it helps to have a powerful diesel engine like Trailblazer’s Duramax under the hood. The 2.8L variant delivers 147 kW (200 hp) at 3600 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, making Trailblazer one of the most powerful vehicles in its class. The 2.5L variant delivers 120 kW (163 hp) at 3600 rpm and produces 380 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm.
