BANGKOK, THAILANDChevrolet Thailand wants to know “What Do You #PlayFor?” Is it a shot at winning Manchester United souvenirs, or to show support for the One World Futbol Project? Or is it a chance to test drive one of the latest Chevrolet models, or buy one for a great price? Chevrolet offers all of this and more at the 35th Bangkok International Motor Show 2014.

Among the new models launched at the show are the updated 2014 Chevrolet Captiva SUV, the brand’s flagship, along with a special Sport edition of the Colorado midsize pickup truck.

The introduction of the 2014 Captiva, in particular, renders Chevrolet’s vehicle portfolio as the most up-to-date on the market, following introductions of the new Colorado, Sonic, Trailblazer and Spin over the past three years.

“It is great to be starting the year with a fresh product portfolio,” said Marcos Purty, new managing director of General Motors and Chevrolet Sales in Thailand. “These vehicles are the right products to ensure our continued growth in Thailand and Southeast Asia.”

The 2014 Captiva offers new advanced technologies and features, updated styling, superior driving dynamics and performance that are expected to help Chevrolet win a bigger share of the SUV-C segment.

Aimed at customers who need an SUV with an attractive exterior, luxurious interior and impressive performance, the new Captiva comes with Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS) that allows the driver to unlock doors and start the engine without having to take the key in his hands.

There is also new dual zone climate control for the driver and front passenger for separate temperature settings while the steering wheel-mounted controls are now illuminated, giving the driver a clearer view of the controls in low-light conditions. The interior is finished in new upholstery pattern for a fresher look.

Outside, Captiva has a redesigned front bumper with more elegant fog-light covers, a rear bumper with integrated, stylized chrome exhaust tips and new rear light clusters. The new model also comes with integrated stainless steel side steps that allow passengers to get in and out with ease (only on 2.0 diesel LTZ variant). The ‘LT’ variant also gets new 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.

Choice of powertrains for Captiva remain the same – an E85-capable 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts (DOHC), 16 valves and Double Continuously Variable Cam-Phasing (Double CVC) and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with DOHC, 16 valves and a high-pressure common-rail fuel delivery system.

In addition to SUVs, Chevrolet also showcased a special Sport edition of the Colorado midsize pickup truck.

Only 500 Sport-edition Colorados will be produced. To separate them from existing models and variants, the Sport-edition Colorados will have LED Daylight Running Lights, Front Nudge Bar, Sports Bar with integrated third brake light on the truck bed, 17-inch alloy wheels, side steps and special Sport-edition decals. Colors for the Sport-edition Colorado include Black Sapphire, Summit White and Orange Rock.

Inside, the Colorado Sport edition features smart-media infotainment system including a GPS navigation system, DVD-capability and USB connectivity that allows playback of personal playlists. Only Colorado Crew-Cab 2.5L 2WD High-Stance and Extended-Cab 2.5L 2WD High-Stance are available as Sport-edition models.

Also on display are the latest models of the Cruze compact sedan, Sonic sub-compact sedan and hatchback, Spin MPV, and the recently-launched Chevrolet Trailblazer with the second-generation Duramax four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine.

Visitors at Chevrolet’s Motor Show stand also can experience the “What Do You #PlayFor?” dribble skill corner where customers can use their football skills to win Manchester United souvenirs. “What Do You #PlayFor?” is Chevrolet’s new global campaign to inspire and bring football fans closer to the sport than ever while making a lasting impact in places where play is most needed through its partnership with One World Futbol Project.

Chevrolet partnered with OWFP in May 2012 to bring the joy of football and play to youths around the world. As the founding sponsor of OWFP, Chevrolet made a three-year commitment to donate 1.5 million OWF balls to children around the world. To accommodate this effort, Chevrolet is working with OWFP and a growing network of organizations serving youth and children in disadvantaged communities worldwide. To date, Chevrolet has donated over 16,000 One World Futbols to children across Southeast Asian countries.

In addition to this, Chevrolet’s Motor Show stand has a Chevy Collection section selling the latest limited edition Playhound apparel and accessories. The new offerings expand on the successful partnership that created two designer versions of the Chevrolet Sonic unveiled at Elle Fashion Week in 2012.
