Chevrolet Sonic’s Appeal Boosted by New Technologies and Features

  • Sonic range gets more new technologies and safety features
  • Auto rain sensors and headlights for top-of-the-range variants
  • ABS and airbags standard on entry-level variants

BANGKOK, THAILAND: Chevrolet Sales Thailand (Chevrolet) today introduced more new technologies and safety into the feature-packed and popular Sonic, further increasing the competitiveness and desirability of the automaker’s popular sub-compact offering.

The Chevrolet Sonic has been a successful model, becoming a trendy choice amongst sub-compact buyers since it was launched. To position the Sonic further away from its competitors and place it at the front of its segment, it now features new, high-technology additions like auto-rain sensor and auto headlights in selected variants. These are in addition to an E85-capable powertrain and MyLink infotainment system, both of which were segment firsts when the 1.6-liter variant was launched. Safety is also enhanced with ABS and airbags as standard in all variants.

Gustavo Colossi, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Chevrolet Sales Thailand and GM Southeast Asia Operations said, “Chic and fun just got more sophisticated. With these additional features, the Chevrolet Sonic is even more popular, and takes driving pleasure and safety to the next level.

“The enhancements also increases the Sonic’s relevance and places the model at the front of its segment,” Colossi added.

Starting at the top, both the four-door-sedan and five-door-hatchback Sonic 1.6 LTZ is fitted with Auto Rain Sensor and Automatic Headlights as standard.

The Automatic Headlights System enables the headlights to respond automatically relative to external-light intensity. In low ambient lighting, the headlights turn on automatically, maintaining visibility ahead for the driver and enhances safety. The system also features a ‘follow me home’ function, which keeps the headlights on for a certain period of time after the engine is switched off. This is a useful function, for example in an unlit porch.

Meanwhile, the Auto Rain Sensor detects the intensity of rain, or water, on the windshield, and turns on the wipers if rain is detected. It also automatically adjusts the wiper speed accordingly and stops the wipers if rain or water is no longer detected. In addition to not distracting the driver from the task of driving, this feature also saves the wiper blades from premature wear and tear.

Automatic Headlights is also standard on the Sonic 1.4 LT four-door sedan and five-door hatchback, in addition to a passenger airbag. Additional safety features are also available on the Sonic 1.4 LS four-door sedan, in the form of an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and airbags for the driver and front passenger.
Both the 1.4L and 1.6L variants continue to use existing powertrains. The 1.4L uses GM’s E20-capable 16-valve DOHC (Double Overhead Camshafts) engine while the 1.6L uses the latest generation, low-maintenance E85-capable 16-valve DOHC engine. It is the only E85-capable engine in its segment. Both engines feature DCVCP (Double Continuous Variable Cam Phasing).

The Sonic’s chic, modern and the fun lines remain fresh and appealing, while the interior continues with the same dual-cockpit theme with an instrument binnacle that combines digital and analog indicators and meters.
