The variable gas system employs computer controlled-blades with angle manipulation and pressure adjustment. This automatic system works by corresponding with the force applied on the accelerator to give you the power and acceleration you need. No friction. No downtime. Just sheer dynamic power (2.8L engines).
By employing hydraulic valve lifters, the Double Overhead Camshaft system takes in clean air more efficiently—while purging out exhaust—compared to the SOHC or Single Overheard Camshaft system. Greater clean air intake translates to faster and better combustion with a significant reduction in engine noise. This makes Duramax engines more responsive, powerful and fuel-efficient.
The automatic valve regulator uses a hydraulic system to manage the gap between the valve shafts due to wear of parts and temperature fluctuation resulting in better combustion while eliminating the need for periodic adjustments. This means you can count on full power output for the life of the engine.
Engine oil is protected from overheating by the placing of the engine oil filter next to the coolant system. Temperature is then maintained within the desired range, lubrication is more efficient and the usable life of engine oil is extended. Less frequent engine oil changes, the more you save.
The Common Rail Direct Injection system incorporated inside Duramax engines uses a computer controlled 4-nozzle injector system. With fuel injected more precisely and in the form of a finer mist, combustion efficiency is noticably enhanced, resulting in greater power and greater fuel efficiency, especially during acceleration.
Balance shaft helps to dampen engine vibration and the echoing noises inside the chassis and the passenger cabin. Duramax engines have dropped chains in favor of belts. Significantly reduced engine noise is the result. These belts last as long as 160,000 kilometers, taking you further with confidence.
