Chevrolet to Sponsor Manchester United Match at ‘The Big House’ this Summer

DETROIT – Chevrolet today announced its sponsorship of Manchester United’s first‑ever match in Michigan – August 2 vs. Real Madrid at the University of Michigan’s “Big House” in Ann Arbor.
Manchester United will wear Chevrolet-branded shirts during the match, which is part of the club’s 2014-15 pre-season schedule. Chevrolet kicks off its seven-year shirt sponsorship with Manchester United on July 1.
The match, presented by Chevrolet, is part of the 2014 Guinness International Champions Cup and will be played in Michigan Stadium, the largest stadium in the United States, with an official capacity of 109,901. The match could break the record for the largest crowd to ever attend a football match in the United States. The record was set during the 1984 Olympic Summer Games when 101,799 people watched France defeat Brazil 2-0 in the gold medal match at the Rose Bowl.

Chevrolet last month launched “What Do You #PlayFor?” – a global campaign that asks fans to define the spirit of play in their own words and images, with a digital community hosted at www.ChevroletFC.com.
Manchester United Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold, said: “We are delighted to be returning the U.S. This will be United’s first-ever match in Michigan, Chevrolet’s global headquarters. Playing at the iconic Big House will be a memorable experience for all involved.”
Chevrolet also is the Official Vehicle of the ICC, which features eight European football clubs competing July 24 through Aug. 4 at U.S. venues following completion of the World Cup. In addition to Manchester United and defending Guinness International Champions Cup champion Real Madrid, the clubs include F.C. Inter, AS Roma, Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Olympiacos and AC Milan.
