BANGKOK, THAILAND – Chevrolet has successfully completed a second One World Futbol caravan in Thailand, as part of its pledge to give away 5,000 ultra-durable footballs to disadvantaged youth throughout the country.
Over the weekend, a fleet of Chevrolet Trailblazer SUVs travelled to Northeast Thailand, bringing the “power of play” to thousands of children in Isaan. The One World Futbol caravan made stops at Baan Don-Han Community School in Khon Kaen province, and SOS Children’s Village Nong Khai, bringing a total of 200 virtually indestructible footballs to local youth.
The caravan was led by Chevrolet Thailand’s Senior Corporate Communications Manager Anekbhand Thambovornpong. He was joined in Khon Kaen by Sarawut Pholkhan, Sales Manager of Khonkaen Pijitphet Motorcar, and Jiraphong Kongbua, Assistant Managing Director of R.H. Motors Sales; and in Nong Khai by Panida Tangsakul, Managing Director, of Pijitphet Yanyon Co.,Ltd. Fifty two Chevrolet dealers in Thailand are helping to distribute the footballs nationwide.
“This weekend’s One World Futbol caravan was a great success,” Anekbhand said. “We were inspired to see how quickly happiness spread amongst the children, as soon as a football was placed at their feet. We hope these durable One World Futbols will touch the lives of kids in Isaan every day, for many years to come.”
At each stop, local children welcomed the One World Futbol caravan with music and traditional Thai dancing. After the hand-over ceremony, staff from the local Chevrolet dealership played a friendly game of football with local children, and distributed educational supplies, football kits, baseball caps, and other gifts to the local community.
Chevrolet has partnered with SOS Children’s Villages Southeast Asia, World Vision Foundation of Thailand, and the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under Royal Patronage, to ensure that the footballs are given to the children in greatest need.
Chevrolet Thailand has now completed two caravans of One World Futbols, sharing the “power of play” with Thailand’s Northeast and Southern regions. More than 500 long-lasting footballs have been distributed to date, in Ranong, Phuket, Hat Yai, Khon Kaen, and Nong Khai. Upcoming One World Futbol caravans are scheduled to travel in April and May and will visit Chantaburi, Phitsanulok and Chiang Rai, respectively.
In addition to One World Futbol Project caravans, Chevrolet has made an on-going commitment to support Thai youth by supporting education in Thailand — by providing scholarships, school supplies, technical training, and building libraries in poor communities.
As founding sponsor of One World Futbol Project, Chevrolet has made a three-year commitment to donate 1.5 million virtually indestructible soccer balls to youth around the world living in in war-stricken zones, refugee camps, disaster areas, and other disadvantaged communities. The balls are made from a rugged, non-toxic material that cannot be punctured or crushed.
The specially-engineered One World Futbol never goes flat, never needs a pump, even in harsh conditions. An additional 11,000 One World Futbols have been earmarked this year for youth in struggling communities in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore. Chevrolet Indonesia has pledged to donate another 5,400 One World Futbols in 2013.
