Bangkok – GM Southeast Asia has honored its best 23 automotive suppliers in Southeast Asia for delivering superior quality at the first annual Quality Excellence Awards ceremony in Bangkok. Winners came from Thailand (12), Indonesia (3), the Philippines (3), Singapore (3) and Malaysia (2).
The event, held at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao, marks the first time that the global automaker has recognized its Southeast Asian suppliers at a special awards ceremony solely for achieving and maintaining the highest quality standards.
GM Southeast Asia Operations President Martin Apfel said that the awards highlight the key role that Southeast Asian manufacturers are playing in the company’s success.
“Recognition is highly deserved by these ‘silent heroes’ of the global automotive industry,” Apfel said. “The companies that took home the Quality Supplier Excellence Awards have proven by their performance that they are among the best automotive suppliers in the world.”
GM intends to make the Quality Excellence Awards ceremony an annual event in Southeast Asia among other initiatives to strengthen ties and deepen its collaboration with suppliers in the region.
“Our supplier’s devotion to outstanding quality plays an essential role in GM's efforts to provide the best overall customer experience in the automotive industry,” Apfel said. “The Quality Excellence Awards is our way of showing our deep appreciation for the outstanding performance of these key suppliers.”
An additional 30 regional suppliers were presented with a Quality System Basic Award for delivering a consistent, high quality performance during the past year.
GM’s Quality Teams analyzed the performance of the region’s 1,983 suppliers from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012, to determine the award winners for Quality Excellence and Quality Basic certification.
The 23 Quality Excellence award winners and the 30 Quality System Basic award winners were invited to Bangkok for the Oct. 30 ceremony, where they met with GM’s regional executives, including President Martin Apfel, Vice President Aaron Jones, and Guy Lynch, Supplier Quality Director at GM International Operations. Dr. Atchaka Sribunruang, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, attended the event on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and congratulated the winners for their contributions to GM’s growth.
GM Southeast Asia’s Vice President of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, Aaron Jones, said that the Quality System Basic award winners did an outstanding job over the past year, supplying GM around the world, including the company’s manufacturing complex in Rayong, Thailand.
